5 Things to do When you Feel Burnt Out

Have you ever had days where you feel like you are doing a million things but not doing any of them well? Do you find yourself exhausted at the end of the day but really didn't accomplish much?

Listen, we've all been there. Starting and running your own business requires you to wear many hats and often you are doing it by yourself. It's so easy to feel burnt out. Far too often, this is when people quit. In the beginning it was exciting and fun but that can wear off quickly and what you are left with is work. I truly believe this is why so many people will hop from direct sales company to direct sales company or start a business and quit before it ever really takes off.

Sticking with a business past the honeymoon stage requires determination. You will feel burnt out at some point or another. Knowing how to handle that and get back on the right track will keep your head in the game.

So, what should you do when you feel burnt out?

1. Breathe and refocus.

Take a step back for just a moment. Its important that this just be a moment. Literally, breathe. Take a couple minutes to meditate and calm the emotions that come from feeling burnt out. Once the emotions are under control you can take a look at the actual facts of your situation. This will be a great time to see if you are taking on too much, spending time on things that don't matter or need help.

2. Unplug.

This is important in the heat of the moment but also something that should be part of your daily balance. Take an hour or even a day and turn off your phone, shut off the computer and step away from your business. We live, sleep and eat this life. Today's technology makes running a business easy and convenient but it also means that we are connected to it 24 hours a day. There is no need to answer messages the minute they come in...at nine o'clock at night. Shut it off.

3. Practice self care.

Most of us run businesses and take care of families. Its easy to forget to take care of yourself. Schedule time for self care. Actually put it on the calendar. It doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. You can get a massage, take a bath, read a book, catch up on your favorite tv show or whatever else makes you feel good.

4. Be intentional.

You can do anything but you can't do everything. Learn to say no. Your time is valuable and not every opportunity that comes your way will be worth your time. The goal isn't to be busy, the goal is to be productive. Write a list of your priorities and make sure that the commitments you make fall in line with them. Be intentional with your time, don't just let your day happen to you.

5. Remember your why.

You started this business for a reason. There was a motivation and drive behind it. Don't let your self get so bombarded with demands that you forget what you why is. When you are feeling overwhelmed think about it. I mean, really think about it. Go deeper than the surface. Ask yourself why the sacrifices you are making right now are worth it! If you need help figuring out your why we want to help!
