Tell us about yourself.
I'm a 44 year old wife and mom of two kids. I like being outside in the sun, doing yard work, and getting things accomplished. I love watching my kids succeed in life and helping my husband run our house with God's love.
How did you get into your business?
I got into my business after finding out that I really enjoyed painting and that I was good at teaching it. I started out teaching a small group of women at church. The class grew so fast I had a waiting list. When we moved to Oregon, I decided to listen to what God was telling me and take a chance on building a business here. I worked hard. I built relationships, my website, my studio space and social media accounts. I now have two assistants and we paint at different location all over Salem and the surrounding areas.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is saying no. Its hard work making sure my family/work life is balanced. I have to just stop sometimes and take a break.
What do you wish you’d known when you started?
I wish i had known how to get more visible on Google. I didn't know about these easy (but time consuming) steps to make sure the web page I had built were easy to find using keywords.
If you could narrow your success down to one thing, what would it be?
Listening to the inner voice of God saying, "Take a chance, I have something big in store. Trust in Me." Also, tenacity, hard work, and not giving up!
Where do you see yourself in a year?
I'd like to have a few more trained artists, so I never have to say no to any venue that needs us!
What are your tips for women starting a business?
Don't give up on your dream. If things aren't going the way you want, work harder, don't make excuses. Be organized. Find all the organizing apps, calendars, devices that you can and utilize them
What is a typical day for you like?
Get the kids off to school, coffee, and sunshine on the deck. Prioritize my day. Usually marketing, scheduling, painting or organizing. Grab kids from school and they help me load up and get ready for the evening paint classes. I couldn't do it all without their help!
What’s your business motto or quote you live by?
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
If you were starting your business over again, what would you do differently?
Nothing! I'm pretty happy with every aspect of my business so far!
