Using Your Strengths To Build Your Business

True or False—Anyone can run a business? TRUE!

I know this is against the grain of thinking, but hear me out.

You all know we are HUGE proponants of self-growth and personal development here at Business Building Women. A few years back I could barely run my life and now I run two businesses, I’m raising three kids all on top of spending quality time with my husband and keeping a semi-clean home. I’m a WHOLE NEW PERSON.

So yeah, if you want to become a rockstar in business, you can become a rockstar in business. How is this possible?

Play to your strengths!

We were all given strengths, whether your strength is in running a successful company or managing your household. You have them. We can grow our strengths as well, which is pretty cool. It opens up opportunities that we didn't have before!

Here are three ways to GROW as a business building woman, by playing to your strengths.

1) Choose a business or choose to manage the parts of your business that you feel knowledgeable in. For example, lets say you and your friend want to open a shoe store. If your friend has a passion for choosing the perfect shoe for the every outfit while you wear Birkenstocks and blue jeans every day. Let her take over the inventory and ordering while you take over something you’re more skilled in. If it’s numbers, take over the books, if it’s being social and technologically literate, take over the website and advertising.

You don’t have to master all of the parts of the whole business. Pick you strength and find others who have strengths where you are weak. As you grow in your business, you will learn how to pick the perfect shoe for perfect outfit if that’s something you desire to learn.

2) Grow in your areas of weakness. Okay, so you want to start selling makeup? You love makeup, but you don’t really even know how to contour. Cut Crease!? What is that? It obviously helps in attracting customers if you know what the heck your doing. It makes you more credible, especially with your competition {other makeup saleswomen} on FB lives everyday looking like professional makeup artists and rocking their makeup applications.

Start learning! Watch people who have the skills, watch youtube tutorials on makeup products and how to apply correctly. Practice. You will get better with practice. You will feel more confident as you build up your knowledge base and strengthen your makeup skills.

3) Don’t be afraid to fail. These five words should be tattooed on anyone who owns a business OR wants to own a business, maybe that’s a little extreme.. But people get frozen in perfection. Wanting to make sure they don’t start anything unless they know everything and have it all figured out. This is a recipe for disaster in business, because you’ll never start, or if you do, you’ll stop at the first sign of a problem.

So what if you are learning as you go!? That makes a trustworthy and humble leader. If you can acknowledge that you don’t know everything there is to know, use your strengths to grow and work in your areas of weakness, you will create something huge. If you’re in MLM, you’ll be able to create duplicity in your business. If you have a physical storefront, you’ll be able to grow your customer base and a following that trusts what you have to offer.

The CEO of IBM, Tom Watson said, ”If you want to succeed, double your failure rate.” Fail forward. Become comfortable with not knowing everything. Use your strengths to build your empire and you will succeed.
